1/2004
Los Angeles, CA. - Shavar Ross, best known for his role as “Dudley”, Gary Coleman’s best friend on the hit 1980’s television show “Diff’rent Strokes” announces the release of his film, “A Taste of Us”, a 35-minute short film shot in the new digital 24p technology. “We are excited about the release of this film”, said Ross, president and founder of Tri-Seven Entertainment, a new television and film production company which produces cutting-edge morality-based projects for multi-cultural audiences.

“The film takes place in the 60’s segregated south and is a drama about a small town African-American minister who comes together with his dysfunctional family on Thanksgiving Day”, said Ross, “The Reverend realizes, too late, how important his family really means to him”, said Ross, a former pastor as well as actor. “This movie is about putting your family first, before work or career”, said Ross.
The film, written, directed and edited by Ross, was shot on a small budget in south central Los Angeles. In addition to festival entries, Ross hopes to pitch “A Taste of Us” as a pilot for the direct-to-video market or as a television series on a major network. “I’d like to see more positive shows out there that portray African-Americans in a non-stereotypical light”, said Ross.
Ross has appeared in numerous television shows throughout his twenty year career as an actor, including, such hit shows as “Family Matters”, “Designing Women”, “Magnum P.I.”, and “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”. He also starred in the cult horror flick “Friday the 13th Part V”. “I hope to make a successful transition from acting to directing for television and film”, said Ross.
Set to air in April, look for Ross to be featured in a VH-1 two-hour documentary about the lives of child stars.
